Welcome to Plant Pathology Website.
The Plant Pathology Laboratory is located in the
headquarter of Nevada State Department of
Agriculture in Reno, Nevada. The laboratory
functions as a statewide service center to protect
Nevada agricultural crops, ornamental plants and
native plants by preventing attacks from exotic
pathogens and by minimizing damages from existing
diseases.
As a key part of the
state agency, we are mainly committed to the
following programs:
-
Researches on important diseases and their
diagnostic methodology.
-
Survey
and monitoring of invasive diseases statewide
through state-federal partnership and
cooperative programs.
-
Certification of seed potatoes and garlic seeds
to ensure that commercial seed production meets
national standard of disease tolerance.
-
Detection of diseases from official samples
collected from fields, nurseries and ports of
entry inspection.
-
Inter- and intra-state quarantine of plant
diseases.
-
Field
inspection of plant diseases prior to exporting
of agricultural products to other states or
countries and issuing of phytosanitary
certificates if commodities meet the requirement
set by those states or countries.
-
Plant
diagnostic programs in the Western regions of
the country.
-
Public
education on plant health through master
gardener program, cooperative extension, and
public events statewide
